Cricket World Cup 2023: England Beat Bangladesh By 137 Runs

Date:

New Delhi: England dominated Bangladesh, securing a resounding victory with an impressive margin of 137 runs at Dharamshala on Tuesday. The dominance of Jos Buttler’s squad was on full display as they managed to dismiss the Bangladeshi team, restricting them to a mere 227 runs.

The Bangladeshi side struggled against the defending champions. Litton Das was the highest run scorer with 77 runs for the Bangladesh team, while Mushfiqur Rahim scored a half-century. However, the lack of contributions from other batters cost Bangladesh the match.

Meanwhile, England’s fast bowlers excelled with the ball. Reece Topley secured a four-wicket haul, while Chris Woakes claimed two wickets. Additionally, Sam Curran, Mark Wood, Adil Rashid, and Liam Livingstone contributed one wicket each.

Earlier in the first innings the England team managed to post a formidable total of 364 runs for the loss of nine wickets against a determined Bangladesh side at Dharamshala on Tuesday. Initially, the defending champions seemed poised to breach the 400-run mark, showcasing their dominance. However, led by the resilient Sakib Al Hasan, the Bangladeshi team staged a remarkable comeback, thwarting England’s ambition of crossing the 400-run milestone.

The opening partnership between Johnny Bairstow and David Malan laid the foundation for the England innings. Both opening batsmen together added a 115-run partnership for the first wicket. Joe Root, who followed Bairstow, continued the momentum alongside Malan.

Malan proved to be the linchpin of the England innings, showcasing his prowess as an opening batsman by notching up his personal best in ODI runs. He displayed an impressive performance, hammering 140 runs off just 107 deliveries. Meanwhile, Root and Bairstow also made significant contributions with crucial half-centuries.

The Bangladesh squad made a comeback by taking quick wickets, restricting the reigning champions from reaching 400 runs, which seemed easy at one point in the game.

Mahedi Hasan was the highest wicket-taker for the Bangladesh team, securing four wickets. Shoriful Islam claimed three wickets, while Taskin Ahmed and Shakib Al Hasan each contributed one wicket.
