New Delhi: Indian captain, Rohit Sharma powered his way to a remarkable 31st ODI century, steering India towards a decisive win over Afghanistan in the World Cup clash at Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium on Wednesday.
Achieving this feat in just 63 balls, Rohit claimed the title for the fastest century by an Indian in World Cup history.
The previous record, held by Kapil Dev since 1983 with 72 balls, was surpassed by Rohit, who outshone the former all-rounder by nine balls, showcasing India’s dominance in their pursuit of 273 against Afghanistan.
Rohit Sharma’s aggressive century not only propelled him to the top but also surpassed the legendary Sachin Tendulkar, securing a record seven centuries in World Cup history.
Tendulkar, who played five World Cups spanning from 1992 to 2011, achieved six centuries, with his final one being a 111 against South Africa in Bengaluru during his 41st innings. Rohit accomplished this feat in just his 19th World Cup innings, firmly establishing himself as the leader in this prestigious list.
