World Cup 2023: Shubman Gill Likely To Play Against Pakistan; Rohit Sharma Hints

Date:

New Delhi: Rohit Sharma hinted at the possible return of Shubman Gill for India’s upcoming ICC World Cup 2023 clash against Pakistan. The Indian captain also dismissed discussions about home advantage, emphasizing that both teams enter the game as favorites, each having secured victories in their initial two matches of the tournament.

During the pre-match press conference in Ahmedabad on Friday, Rohit Sharma disclosed that there’s a 99% chance of Shubman Gill being available for the Pakistan game. Gill, India’s top-ranked ODI batter, was sidelined for the first two matches due to dengue fever, and his potential return would provide a significant lift for the Men in Blue in this crucial game.

“99% Shubman Gill is available for selection tomorrow,” Rohit said. “I don’t believe in psychological advantages. What happened in the past, is past. Both teams will start as favourites, both are equally better. We need to do well and carrying the momentum forward is important.”
