This Indian Airport Claims The Title of World’s Most Punctual Airport

Date:

Bengaluru: The Bengaluru International Airport has been making waves for its remarkable on-time departures, earning the title of the “world’s most punctual airport” for three consecutive months, according to a report by aviation analytics firm Cirium. The Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) in Bengaluru has consistently maintained impressive punctuality, with an on-time departure rate of 87.51% in July, 89.66% in August, and 88.51% in September.

What does the Cirium report say?

Cirium determines on-time performance (OTP) by measuring the aircraft’s arrival at the gate within 15 minutes of the scheduled departure time. This world-leading punctuality was observed across 89.03% of the total flights, amounting to 18,913 flights operated from KIA, as noted in the report.

While KIA excels in on-time departures, its on-time arrivals recorded at 79.46% were comparatively lower and ranked the lowest among the top five airports in the list. Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Airport was the only other Indian airport listed in the top five, and it also secured a place in the overall global list of punctual airports.

How is on-time performance measured?

Every month, Cirium reviews the total number of flights operated by airports globally, which amounts to approximately three million flights. The company then creates an ordered list based on punctuality performance. This monthly assessment contributes to the annual OTP review, which assesses punctuality throughout the year.

A significant milestone for KIA was the recent commencement of international services from it’s Terminal 2 just over a month ago. This achievement further solidifies the airport’s reputation as a world leader in punctuality, offering passengers an impressive on-time departure experience.
