Bombay High Court Rejects Ban; Fawad Khan and Mahira Khan Free to Work In India

Date:

New Delhi: For the past seven years, there has been a ban on Pakistani artists working in India. Several talents from the neighboring country, including Mahira Khan, Fawad Khan, Atif Aslam, Ali Zafar, Javed Sheikh, and Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, had returned to their home country following the imposed ban. Recently, the Bombay High Court dismissed a petition that aimed to prohibit them from working in India.

The Bombay High Court addressed a petition, filed by a cine worker, seeking a ban on Pakistani artists working in India. Justices Sunil B Shukre and Firdosh P Pooniwalla, overseeing the case, expressed that such a prohibition would be regressive in promoting cultural harmony, unity, and peace. They further noted that the petition lacked merit.

According to a news report, the court, in its verdict, stated that “activities promoting peace, harmony, and tranquillity, including arts, music, sports, culture, and dance, transcend national boundaries and contribute to unity and harmony within and between nations.”
