FACT CHECK
NewsMobile fact-checked the viral post, and found it to be misleading.
We noticed the logo of Al-Jazeera in the video. Conducting a Google keyword search, our team traced a YouTube video on the official channel of Al-Jazeera English, dated July 20, 2016 and titled: Gaza: The Last Picture | Al Jazeera World.
The video matches with the viral clip, and the description informs that it was recorded during Israel’s Operation Protective Edge, which was initiated to halt alleged rocket fire from Gaza. The video journalist was Khaled Hamad and the medico was Fouad Jaber.
Another news article in The Guardian, dated July 20, 2016, corroborates the claims from the YouTube video and further tells that the incident occurred in Shuja’iyya, one of the Gaza Strip’s most densely populated neighborhood. Israel alleged that Shuja’iyya harboured Hamas “terror tunnels”. Hamas was employed by a local media company in Gaza City known as Continue Production Films.
We could not find any credible news showing the video of a journalist dying during the recent attacks on Gaza by Israel. Therefore, we can conclusively say that the viral post is misleading.
