World Cup 2023: Afghanistan Beat Sri Lanka By Seven Wickets

New Delhi: Afghanistan clinched a remarkable seven-wicket victory against Sri Lanka in their ICC Cricket World Cup encounter at Pune on Monday, thanks to stellar performances from Rahmant Shah, skipper Hashmatullah Shahidi, and Azmatullah Omarzai, each contributing a half-century, alongside a commendable four-wicket haul by Fazalhaq Farooqi.

The Afghanistan team successfully chased down the total in 45.2 overs to win the match. Azmatullah Omarzai led the way as the highest run scorer with 73 runs, followed by Rahmat Shah, who contributed 62 runs, and skipper Hashmatullah Shahidi, who remained unbeaten with 58 runs. 

Even after delivering an early blow to the Afghanistan team, the Sri Lankan bowlers only managed to take three wickets in the match. Dilshan Madushanka secured two wickets, while Kasun Rajitha managed to claim one wicket.

The Afghanistan team has won three out of their six matches in the 2023 World Cup and is currently fifth on the points table. 

In the first inning, the Afghanistan team dominated with the ball, bowling out the Sri Lankan team for just 241 runs. Fazalhaq Farooqi shone with a four-wicket haul, while Mujeeb Ur Rehman secured two wickets. Rashid Khan and Azmatullah Omarzai each contributed one wicket.
