New Delhi: In a remarkable feat, India’s star opener Shubman Gill has claimed the coveted title of the world’s number one ODI batter. The 24-year-old sensation has outshone Pakistan’s captain, Babar Azam, to secure the pinnacle of rankings for the very first time.
With an impressive tally of 830 rating points, Shubman has solidified his position at the top, while Babar closely trails with 824 points. South Africa’s dynamic Quinton De Kock secures the third spot in the rankings.
Shubman Gill showcased his prowess with the bat, notching up impressive scores of 92 against Sri Lanka and 23 against South Africa. He has accumulated a notable total of 219 runs from six innings in the 2023 ODI World Cup.
India boasts three of its finest batsmen in the top 10 of the ODI rankings. Shubman Gill leads the pack, securing the coveted top spot; stalwart batsman Virat Kohli holds the fourth position. while Indian skipper Rohit Sharma claims the sixth spot.
In the past, cricket legends like Sachin Tendulkar, MS Dhoni, and Virat Kohli have held the number one ranking in the ODI.
Meanwhile, the Indian bowling lineup has also made its mark in the ODI bowling ranking, as Mohammed Siraj has surged two places to reclaim his title as the world’s number one ODI bowler. Furthermore, Kuldeep Yadav ascends three places to secure the fourth spot, Jasprit Bumrah climbs three spots to land in the eighth position, and Mohammed Shami leaps seven places to break into the top 10.
