New Delhi: Pakistan ended their 2023 World Cup campaign with a massive 93-run defeat against England in their final league match at the iconic Eden Gardens on Saturday.
The defending champions, although not performing up to the mark throughout the tournament, displayed all-around dominance against Pakistan. This victory concluded their World Cup campaign on a positive note, securing their qualification for the Champions Trophy 2025.
England bowled out the Pakistan team for just 244 runs in 43.3 overs to secure victory. In his final ODI match, David Willey claimed three wickets, reaching the milestone of 100 wickets in the ODI format for England. Adil Rashid, Gus Atkinson, and Moeen Ali each took two wickets, while Chris Woakes contributed with one wicket.
In the first inning, England posted a formidable total of 338, losing nine wickets. Ben Stokes played a crucial role, contributing a rapid 84 runs, while Jonny Bairstow and Joe Root also played significant innings with half-centuries.
With Pakistan eliminated from the semi-final race, it is now confirmed that the first semi-final will be contested between India and New Zealand on November 15 at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
