Mumbai: Virat Kohli broke yet another record on Wednesday by becoming the first batsman in the history of One Day Internationals (ODIs) to reach 50 centuries during the ongoing ICC World Cup 2023 semi-final clash between India and New Zealand at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium.
Kohli equalled Sachin Tendulkar’s record of 49 centuries in the format during India’s second-to-last league game against South Africa, securing an unbeaten 101 in a victorious performance.
He has now surpassed the Master Blaster by reaching 50 centuries in one-day internationals.
Kohli also surpassed Tendulkar’s World Cup record by achieving a score of 673 runs in a single edition.
Tendulkar achieved this milestone during the 2003 World Cup in South Africa, and the record remained unbroken for twenty years until Kohli surpassed it in the city where his idol was born and brought up.
