Flags Used In ICC World Cup Comes With A Sustainable Twist

Date:

As the finale of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 is almost here, an event that unites cricket enthusiasts from around the globe, did you know it kicked off with a remarkable and sustainable initiative. Coca-Cola India, in collaboration with the International Cricket Council (ICC), unveiled national flags made from post-consumer PET bottles. This groundbreaking environmental initiative showcased the shared passion for cricket and a dedication to sustainability, making the World Cup a platform for promoting environmental responsibility.

Ingeniously transforming PET bottles into yarn, Coca-Cola India and ICC crafted national flags for all 10 participating nations, as well as 10 ICC unity flags. These flags played a prominent role in the pre-match national anthem ceremony at stadiums throughout the tournament. The flags symbolized unity, pride, and environmental responsibility.

To bring these exceptional flags to life, approximately 11,000 PET bottles were used for each national flag, while approximately 2,000 PET bottles were utilized for each ICC unity flag. The flags were skillfully manufactured by GoRevise, a division of Ganesha Ecoverse Limited, which specializes in the production of recycled yarn and garments. Over 100 dedicated workers contributed their time and effort, working tirelessly for 25 days and clocking over 300 hours to produce these flags.

The introduction of national flags made from recycled PET bottles at the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 marked a significant milestone for the cricketing world. Coca-Cola India and ICC showcased their shared commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility, making the World Cup a platform for promoting a greener future.

Coca-Cola India and ICC’s introduction of recycled PET national flags to the game of cricket set a precedent for future sporting events. This pioneering initiative represents a collective pledge towards a more eco-friendly future and a sustainable sports culture. By showcasing environmental responsibility, the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 became a powerful platform for promoting sustainability.
