Fact Check: Did Palestinians Paint A Donkey With Israeli Flag And Set It On Fire? Here’s The Truth

Date:

A collage of two images showing the israeli flag, painted by the people of gaza, on a donkey and then set on fire is doing the rounds on social media. Many users are calling out the barbarism and cruelty of the Palestinians.

A Facebook user posted the viral post with the following caption:

यह गाजा के लोग कितने असभ्य जंगली और दरिंदे हैं सोचिए! इन्होंने एक गधे पर इजराइल का झंडा लगाकर उसे इसराइल बनाया और फिर उसे गधे को पेट्रोल छिड़क कर जिंदा जला दिया। यह दरिंदे जिंदगी में कभी इंसान बन नहीं सकते । (English translation: Imagine how rude wild and evil these marijuana people are! They put an Israeli flag on a donkey and made it Israel and then burnt it alive by sprinkling petrol. These bad people can never become human in their life.)

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the viral post, and found it to be false.

Running a Reverse Image Search of both the images, our team found:

Image 1.
A stock image from Getty Images, dated September 23, 2011, with a title: Palestinians display a donkey painted as an Israeli flag during a demonstration to support the Palestinian bid at the United Nations for statehood recognition, in the West Bank village of Kfar Kadum. Palestinians across the West Bank prepared to celebrate the formal submission of their bid to become a UN member state, despite opposition from Washington and Israel.

The image matches exactly with the viral image, informing that Palestinians did paint the flag of Israel on a donkey during a demonstration to support the Palestinian bid at the United Nations for statehood recognition on September 23, 2011. There is no mention of them setting this donkey on fire and the date of posting this picture, too, predates the ongoing war between Israel and Palestine.

Image 2.
This image was also found on Getty Images as well. According to the image description, posted on August 6, 2014, Palestinians burning a donkey, who was killed by an Israeli air strike in Rafah in the southern Gaza Strip.

Given that the date of posting of both images is at least three years apart, there is no way that they are related to each other. It also confirms that these pictures are not linked to the ongoing Israel-Palestine war. Therefore, we can conclusively say that the viral post is false.
