Sam Altman To Return As OpenAI CEO

Date:

New Delhi: After a period of negotiations, OpenAI announced that Sam Altman will be returning as the CEO. The announcement also unveiled plans for a revamped board, which will include Bret Taylor as Chair, alongside Larry Summers and Adam D’Angelo.

OpenAI took to X (formerly known as Twitter) to announce Altman’s return. They wrote, “We have reached an agreement in principle for Sam Altman to return to OpenAI as CEO with a new initial board of Bret Taylor (Chair), Larry Summers, and Adam D’Angelo. We are collaborating to figure out the details. Thank you so much for your patience through this.”

Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella announced that Altman and Greg Brockman would spearhead a pioneering AI research team within Microsoft. This development came after Altman was dismissed from OpenAI.

Earlier, OpenAI announced the removal of CEO Sam Altman, stating that the company no longer had faith in his leadership capabilities for the Microsoft-backed firm. This decision comes a year after the creation of ChatGPT.

The company revealed in a blog post on Friday that OpenAI’s board no longer has confidence in Altman’s ability to lead the organisation.

The post said that Altman’s departure came after “a deliberative review process by the board, which concluded that he was not consistently candid in his communications with the board, hindering its ability to exercise its responsibilities.”
