Fact Check: Edited Post Of Former MP CM Uma Bharti Goes Viral With Fictitious Claims

Date:

A purported video featuring BJP leader Uma Bharti is widely shared on social media amidst the ongoing elections in five states, including Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan. In the video, she is supposedly urging people to stand against the BJP. Many users allege that Uma Bharti is calling on the residents of Madhya Pradesh to oppose BJP, and incite discord among the public.

The video is shared on Facebook with a caption: “MP की जनता से उमा भारती की अपील.. बीजेपी के बहकावे और उकसावे में न आएं सोच समझ कर वोट करें : उमा भारती” (English translation: Uma Bharti’s appeal to the people of MP. Don’t be misled and instigated by the BJP. Vote thoughtfully: Uma Bharti.)

FACT CHECK

Performing a Google keyword search, our team could not find any news article corroborating the viral claim. Had Uma Bharti made such a questionable statement, mainstream media would have definitely covered it.

Another report clarifies that the circulating video featuring former MP Chief Minister and BJP leader Uma Bharti is, indeed, fake. Bharti has asserted that the video is a deliberate fabrication aimed at harming her reputation. She has lodged a complaint with the Bhopal Cyber Crime unit, denying any association with the video content. The voice in the video does not belong to Uma Bharti, the report confirms.

Uma Bharti’s official Twitter account also posted a clarification regarding the fake video. As per the tweet, while visiting Tikamgarh to cast her vote, she asked her staff to file an FIR in connection with the misleading video.

The original video was found on Uma Bharti’s Facebook page on January 31, 2023. It does not contain any mention of viral content. However, in the video, Uma Bharti can be heard criticising the Shivraj government, specifically addressing concerns related to the liquor policy.

Thus, we can conclusively say that an edited video of Uma Bharti has gone viral with misleading claims.
