Fact Check: Viral Post Of Mother Reuniting With Daughter Falsely Linked To Release Of Prisoners By Israel

On November 25, 2023, Israel released around 24 women and 15 teenage boys detained in their prisons as a part of the deal with Hamas militants in exchange for the release of hostages held by Hamas. Against the backdrop, a video showing a mother reuniting with her little girl is doing the rounds on social media. Many users claim that the Palestinian girl child had been imprisoned in Israel.

A Facebook user posted the viral post with a caption: “🇵🇸: Are you serious? That little one was in jail? It’s hard to believe that a young child could face such harsh realities. Situations like these compel us to question the justice systems and their impacts on the most vulnerable. #ChildImprisonment #JusticeSystem #HardToBelieve”

NewsMobile fact-checked the viral post, and found it to be false.

Running a Reverse Image Search of the viral clip, our team found a tweet on the official handle of Al Jazeera Mubasher, dated November 24, 2023. The video matches exactly with the viral clip, informing that the clip is from Nasser Hospital, Khan Younis, Southern Gaza.

Another YouTube shorts video, dated November 24, 2023, describes that a mother is reuniting with her daughter after she survived an Israeli raid in Khan Younis.

As the exchange of prisoners has taken place in West Bank, and the video in question is from Khan Younis, Southern Gaza, these two cannot be linked to each other.

Therefore, we can conclusively say that the viral post is fabricated.
