Date:

Amid the ongoing Assembly Elections, a video of Congress leader Kamal Nath cutting a temple-shaped cake with Lord Hanuman’s image is doing the rounds on social media, warning people to think about the condition of Hindus if he becomes the MP CM.

The video caption reads: “Kamal Nath cuts a cake with the shape of Hanuman ji and temple. If he becomes the chief minister, he will cut it for Hindus.”

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the posts, and found the video to be old.

Scanning through the YouTube channel of Aaj Tak, our team  found the original video, which had been shared on November 17, 2022, with a title: “Kamal Nath ने जन्मदिन पर मंदिर के आकार का काटा केक, मचा बवाल, BJP बोली- ये हिंदुओं का अपमान”

According to a report by NDTV, dated Nov 2022, after the video went viral Chief Minister and senior BJP leader Shivraj Singh Chouhan accused Kamal Nath of hurting sentiments by cutting the cake with several religious symbols on it. “He (Kamal Nath) and his party are Bagula Bhagat (false devotees), who have nothing to do with god. He represents the same party that once opposed the construction of Ram Temple. But on realising that it was damaging them electorally, he turned into a Hanuman Bhakt. Can anyone imagine a birthday cake bearing the image of Lord Hanuman and also cutting the same cake? This amounts to insult to Sanatan Dharma and its followers,” he said.

Responding to the accusations, the Congress said it was brought by his supporters and the cake was in the shape of the 121-feet Hanuman Mandir that Kamal Nath built in Chhindwara.

The above incident proves that the video was taken in 2022 and is not related to the assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh.
