New Delhi: As the clock ticks down to the eagerly awaited declaration of Assembly election results in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Telangana, and Chhattisgarh, the entire nation awaits with bated breath, viewing these elections as the semi-finals for the upcoming Lok Sabha in 2024.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is heading towards winning in three states — Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Rajasthan. At the same time, the Congress seems ready to replace BRS and take charge in Telangana.
The Poll of polls earlier predicted a decisive win for the BJP in Madhya Pradesh and a clear majority for the Congress in Telangana. It also predicted the BJP maintaining a lead in Rajasthan, and the Congress in Chhattisgarh. Although the overall trends stayed the same, Chhattisgarh’s results brought a surprise.
Madhya Pradesh:
Exit Polls Prediction: As per the Poll of Polls, the BJP was projected to win 124 seats, while the Congress was predicted to secure 102 seats in Madhya Pradesh out of the overall 230 seats.
Current Trends: The BJP has taken a comfortable lead, surpassing 160 seats out of the total 230, while the Congress is trailing with 66 seats. The results indicate a clear advantage for the BJP.
Rajasthan
Exit Polls Prediction: In Rajasthan, according to the Poll of Polls, it was expected that the longstanding trend of the past thirty years would persist, projecting a smooth win for the BJP with 104 seats. Meanwhile, the Congress-led alliance was expected to secure 85 seats out of a total of 200. However, the vote count will be carried out for 199 seats, given the unfortunate passing of Congress candidate Gurmeet Singh Koonar in Sriganganagar’s Karanpur constituency.
Current Trends: Exceeding predictions, the BJP has achieved 112 seats, while the INC and its coalition lag behind with 72. The current outcomes indicate a significant advantage for the BJP.
Telangana:
Exit Polls Prediction: According to the exit polls, a Congress-led government was projected to secure around 62 seats, while the ruling Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) was expected to attain 44 seats. The total number of seats in consideration is 119.
Current Trends: At present, the Congress and its alliance control 63 seats, BRS holds 40, and the BJP and its coalition secure 8. Congress seems to be on track for a decisive majority, aligning with the predictions from the exit polls.
Chhattisgarh:
Exit Polls Prediction: The Poll of Polls projected a victory for Congress in Chhattisgarh, foreseeing the BJP securing 38 seats out of a total of 90.
Current Trends: Contrary to expectations, the final outcome shows a different picture, with the BJP securing 56 seats and Congress trailing at 33. The electoral battle in Chhattisgarh proved highly unpredictable, showcasing a tight competition between BJP and Congress.
