Congress recently won the Telangana elections, and Revanth Reddy took oath as Chief Minister on December 7, 2023. Against the backdrop, a video has gone viral on social media, claiming that Kalma was written on the Indian flag after the Congress victory in Telangana. Many users have criticised the party for such action.
A Facebook user posted the viral post with a caption: ☝️तेलंगाना में कांग्रेस के जीतते ही भारत के झंडे पर कलमा लिख दिया गया……इनके इरादे समझिए……अपने इरादे बनाइये….कहीं देर न हो जाये…. (English version: ☝️ As soon as Congress won in Telangana, the Kalma was written on the Indian flag…. Understand their intentions…. Make your intentions…. May it not be too late….)

FACT CHECK
NewsMobile fact-checked the viral post, and found it to be fabricated.
Checking the viral clip with relevant keywords, our team traced a YouTube video on the official channel of Zee News, June 10, 2022, with a title: DNA Live: देखिए DNA Sudhir Chaudhary के साथ, June 10, 2022 | Top News Today | Hindi News | Analysis, streamed live.
A part of the bulletin matches with the viral clip describing that this incident took place in Mahabubnagar, Telangana. The video is from a protest against Nupur Sharma’s remarks on Prophet Mohammad in 2022. At that time K. Chandrashekhar Rao of the BRS party was the chief minister of Telangana.
Another news article on India TV also confirms that the incident happened last year. According to the report, protesters during the rally insulted the tricolour by writing Kalma in place of Ashok Chakra.
Therefore, we can conclusively say that the viral post, claiming to show Congress supporters desecrating the tricolour after winning the elections, is false.
