Fact Check: Viral Clip Of Water-logged Supermarket From Georgia’s Tbilisi Fictitiously Linked To Chennai Floods

Recently, Chennai was hit by cyclone Michuang causing heavy floods across the city. Against the backdrop, a viral video showing a water-logged supermarket is doing the rounds on social media. Many users claim it to be from Chennai.

NewsMobile fact-checked the viral post, and found it to be fake.

Running a Reverse Image Search of the video keyframes, our team spotted a YouTube video on an unverified channel, dated February 2, 2018, with a title: Fish swim on Carrefour supermarket hypermarket store floor in Tbilisi, Georgia. As per the report, an aquarium broke at one of the supermarket chain stores in Tbilisi, Georgia. The video exactly matches with the viral clip. 

Another news article in Mirror.co.uk, dated February 11, 2018, also corroborates the claims made in the YouTube video.  

Therefore, we can conclusively say that the viral post, claiming to show a flooded supermarket in Chennai, is false.
