FACT CHECK
NewsMobile fact-checked the above claim, and found it to be MISLEADING.
The NM team found the state-run Turkish news agency Anadolu, dated March 15, 2019, carrying a photo that resembles the scenes in the viral clip. The reported context indicates that the Palestinians staged a demonstration near Beit Sira in Ramallah, West Bank. The Israeli forces reportedly intervened, halting an ambulance during the incident. — Photo credit by Issam Rimawi.
Rimawi posted several images of the incident on Facebook on March 8, 2019, stating in Arabic, “Occupation soldiers detain a Red Crescent ambulance and its crew during their coverage of confrontations in Beit Sierra West, despite God.”
B’Tselem, a Jerusalem-based non-profit organisation whose stated goals are to document human rights violations in the Israeli-occupied Palestinian territories, reported about the same incident on March 25, 2019. During a March 8, 2019 protest in Beit Sira, Ramallah, around 200 people sought the release of two Palestinians’ bodies. Clashes ensued, prompting ambulance calls. Amid clashes, an ambulance attempted to leave but an officer, at gunpoint, ordered the driver to turn off the engine. They waited for 15 minutes until the soldiers dispersed.
Thus, it is confirmed that 2019 visuals of Israeli forces stopping an ambulance have been falsely linked to the ongoing Israel-Palestine war.
