New Delhi: Congress MP Rahul Gandhi blamed unemployment due to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s policies for Parliament security breach. “The citizens of the country are not getting employment because of (Prime Minister Narendra) Modi’s policies. Unemployment is the reason why the security breach happened,” he told reporters on Saturday.
Rahul Gandhi also added that the major issue currently affecting the Indian population is unemployment.
“The security breach has indeed happened. But the point is, why did it happen? The main issue is unemployment. Owing to Modi ji’s policies, the people of India are not getting employment,” the Wayanad MP said.
Rahul Gandhi pointed out that the Parliament security breach occurred due to unemployment and inflation resulting from the Prime Minister’s policies.
Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge took a jibe at Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s approach to the security breach, saying that Shah communicates with the media but refrains from addressing the matter in the House.
On asked about Shah’s claim that the opposition parties are politicising the Parliament security breach, Kharge said, “He seeks votes by taking Congress’s name, (and) takes votes by abusing Nehru ji and Gandhi ji.”
The BJP-led government and the Opposition have been in disagreement regarding the Parliament security breach on December 13, which coincided with the 22nd anniversary of the 2001 Parliament attack. The Congress and other opposition parties hold the BJP responsible, citing that visitors’ passes were issued in the name of BJP MP Pratip Simha to two of the six accused in the incident.
The incident took place when two intruders jumped into the Lok Sabha chamber from the public gallery during Zero Hour. They unleashed yellow-colored canisters hidden in their shoes and began shouting slogans. The commotion concluded after MPs and Parliament security staff managed to overpower them.
Two more suspects protested outside.
Meanwhile, Lalit Jha, the mastermind of the security breach, could not be arrested immediately. He surrendered to the police on Thursday night.
On Thursday, four accused involved in the case, including the two who intruded Parliament, were placed in 7-day police custody. Lalit was similarly detained on Friday. Another suspect, Mahesh Kumawat, has been taken into custody.
