Mumbai: The Thane Police’s Special Investigation Team (SIT) successfully arrested the main accused, Ashwajit Gaikwad, and his associates Romil Patil and Sagar Shedge in connection with a hit-and-run incident where the accused sought to harm his girlfriend. Thane Police verified the confiscation of the vehicle involved in the incident.
Before the arrests, Thane Police had officially charged Ashwajit Gaikwad and two others, utilizing sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) such as 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 279 (rash driving), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace), among others, at the Kasarvadavali police station.
Priya Singh, the victim, provided a statement to news agency ANI, stating that the accused had earlier said he was separated from his wife and expressed being “very much in love.” However, she discovered her boyfriend, the son of a senior bureaucrat, with his wife when she went to meet him. Upon questioning him about the situation, the accused became aggressive and subsequently attempted to run her over with his SUV, according to the victim. She mentioned being in a four-and-a-half-year relationship with the man who made the attempt.
