New Delhi: Keeping in view the security concerns after last week’s security breach in the Parliament, the Central government has decided that the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) will now guard the Parliament complex.
On Wednesday, the Home Ministry issued a notification informing that Delhi Police will be replaced by CISF as the nodal agency in-charge of guarding the Parliament complex.
The Lok Sabha Secretariat will continue to be responsible for security inside the complex, whereas, the Delhi Police will be responsible for guarding the outer perimeter. Meantime, the home minister has ordered a detailed security survey following the breach last week. However, these changes will be enforced only after the completion of this survey.
On December 13, two people had entered the Lok Sabha’s visitor gallery with passes issued by a BJP MP. Later they jumped onto the floor of the House chamber and opened gas canisters that emitted yellow smoke, triggering chaos inside the House. However, they were overpowered by the alert MPs and security personnel.
Two more persons of the team, including a woman, who were waiting outside the House complex, had also opened the gas canisters. In this connection, five persons, including the mastermind, are being interrogated by the Delhi Police.
