Performing a Google keyword search, the NM team could not find any news report from 2020, corroborating the viral claim. The mainstream media would have covered it if Kapil Sibal had made such a statement.
Even with an advanced keyword search on Twitter, our team was not able to find any result about Sibal’s statement.
Furthermore, our team traced a YouTube video by News Nation, dated November 9, 2019, carrying Kapil Sibal’s statement in response to the Supreme Court’s decision on Ram Temple: “They respect the decision. Everyone should respect this final decision given by the 5 judges. The country should look at this decision from the perspective that the controversial issues should be left behind and the integrity of the country should be kept in the forefront.” This contradicts the claim that he made a statement about committing suicide if the Ram temple was built.
