Defamation Suit Filed Against MS Dhoni By Ex Business Partners, Hearing On Jan 29

Date:

New Delhi: The Delhi High Court is set to hear a defamation lawsuit against MS Dhoni, the former Indian cricket captain, on January 29. The suit has been filed by Dhoni’s former business partners, Mihir Diwakar and Soumya Das.

In response, the high court has instructed the registrar to notify Dhoni directly about the legal proceedings and has sent an email and intimation to the law firm representing him.

Former business associates of Dhoni, Mihir Diwakar, and Soumya Das have initiated a defamation suit in the Delhi High Court.

The suit extends to include Meta, X (formerly Twitter), YouTube, Google, and various media houses and web portals. Diwakar and Das seek a permanent injunction and damages, aiming to prevent Dhoni, social media platforms, and media houses from publishing defamatory statements.

The suit addresses allegations of illegal gains and a breach of a 2017 contract, aiming to protect the plaintiffs’ reputation.

In response to the defamation suit, Dhoni has filed a criminal case against Diwakar and Das in a Ranchi lower court. Dhoni accuses them of defrauding him of around Rs 16 crore by failing to fulfill a contract related to establishing cricket academies.

The case, filed under sections 406 and 420 of the Indian Penal Code, alleges criminal breach of trust and cheating against the directors of Aarka Sports, a sports management company. The accused were reportedly friends with Dhoni and even played in the Ranji Trophy with the former Indian cricket captain.
