Aircraft That Crashed In Afghanistan Not Indian: Govt

Date:

New Delhi: Dispelling initial concerns, India’s Ministry of Civil Aviation has refuted reports from Afghanistan claiming that an Indian passenger plane crashed in the northern Badakhshan province. The ministry clarified through a tweet that the aircraft is neither an Indian Scheduled Aircraft nor a Non-Scheduled (NSOP)/Charter aircraft. Instead, it is identified as a Moroccan-registered small aircraft.

“The unfortunate plane crash that has just occurred in Afghanistan is neither an Indian Scheduled Aircraft nor a Non-Scheduled (NSOP)/Charter aircraft. It is a Moroccan-registered small aircraft. More details are awaited.” the Ministry of Civil Aviation tweeted.

Afghanistan-based news portal TOLOnews claimed earlier that the ill-fated aircraft was an Indian passenger flight.

The plane, according to TOLOnews, crashed in the mountains of Topkhana, alongside the districts of Kuran-Munjan and Zibak in Badakhshan.

Further details on the incident are awaited.
