FACT CHECK
NewsMobile fact-checked the above claim, and found it to be MISLEADING.
While checking the video footage, our team saw a board displaying a shop address, named Shaffaf packaged drinking water, which is located in Shalibanda, Hyderabad.
The street view of this shop is also visible on Google. Below is the comparison between the viral video and Google street view. It clarifies that the video is from Telangana.
The same video had been uploaded on a YouTube channel on August 25, 2022, with a caption: “Police entering houses, beating and arresting | Hyderabad police brutality on Muslims at Shalibanda”.
Searching further, we found an interview, aired on August 25, by a reporter on the verified channel of Siasat Daily. The reporter was talking to a woman whose sons were arrested by the police after breaking into her house.
Also, the Siasat Daily website had reported the same incident on August 24. According to the article: “The city police on Wednesday night barged into several homes and dragged out Muslim youth in and around Shalibanda as protests against suspended BJP MLA swelled over his derogatory remarks on Prophet Muhammad. The peaceful atmosphere that prevailed earlier in the day came to an end as over 50 people protesting against Raja Singh were taken into custody.”
Thus, we can conclusively say that the video showing police arresting protesters is from Telangana, NOT Mira Road in Mumbai.
