Gunfire Targeted The Residence Of Hardeep Nijjar’s Associate In Canada

Date:

New Delhi: Gunfire targeted the home of an associate linked to the late Hardeep Singh Nijjar, a prominent pro-Khalistan figure who met his demise in Surrey, British Columbia, on June 18.

According to the Canadian media, Simranjeet Singh was the owner of the residence under attack. The incident unfolded in the early hours of a Thursday, with eyewitnesses reporting that both the parked car and the dwelling were struck by bullets.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) detachment in Surrey confirmed the occurrence. They were quoted in media reports labeling it a ‘shots fired incident at a residence in South Surrey.’ In a release on Thursday, the Surrey RCMP reported receiving a call on February 1 at around 1:21 am, prompting frontline officers to respond and discover evidence consistent with a shooting. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

The Surrey RCMP’s Major Crime Section has taken charge of the investigation, with the release stating that investigators consider this an isolated incident. Officers are actively working to ascertain the motive behind the occurrence.

Moninder Singh, spokesperson for the British Columbia Gurdwaras Council and a notable separatist in Canada, conveyed to CBC News that Simranjeet Singh suspects involvement from the Indian state or its actors. He believes this may be an attempt to intimidate him from his activism. Singh also speculated that Simranjeet Singh’s connection to Hardeep Singh Nijjar could be a motivating factor.
