FACT CHECK
NewsMobile fact-checked the viral post, and found the claims to be misleading.
Running a Reverse Image Search of the video keyframes, the NM team traced a YouTube video titled: Making Japanese food samples, published on February 2, 2014, on an unverified channel. The YouTube video matches with the viral video from 4:49. This indicates that the latter might be from Japan, NOT China.
Another YouTube video on the official channel of Business Insider reveals that the realistic fake food — ‘shokuhin sample’ or ‘food sample’ — is used outside the restaurants in Japan to further enhance their menu cards and allow diners to visually perceive their orders. We see many other food items (along with cabbage) being made artificially to make them visually appealing food samples.
A similar article was also published on a website Kotaku.
Therefore, we can conclusively say that the viral post, claiming to show the artificial cabbage-making process from China, is FAKE.
