Iran Announces Visa-Free Entry For Indian Tourists, But Conditions Apply

Date:

New Delhi: In an effort to enhance tourism, the government of Iran has declared a visa-free policy for Indian tourists starting from February 4, 2024, according to an official statement from the Iranian Embassy in New Delhi released on Tuesday.

This decision is a part of Iran’s visa-waiver initiative, which includes several countries like India, Russia, the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, Japan, Singapore, Malaysia, Brazil, and Mexico.

Under this policy, Indian tourists can enter Iran by air and stay for a maximum duration of 15 days without the need for a visa.

“Individuals holding ordinary passports will be allowed to enter the country without a visa once every six months, with a maximum stay of 15 days,” the embassy said in a statement.

However, Indians intending to visit Iran for educational or business reasons must obtain a pre-approved visa within the relevant categories.

The visa-free policy introduced by the Iranian government is subject to four conditions outlined below:

  1. Frequency and duration: Individuals with ordinary passports can enter Iran without a visa once every six months, with a maximum stay of 15 days. It’s important to note that the 15-day period cannot be extended.
  2. Tourism purposes only: The visa exemption is exclusively for individuals entering the Islamic Republic of Iran for tourism purposes.
  3. Extended stays and multiple entries: If Indian nationals desire a longer stay, multiple entries within a six-month period, or need other types of visas, they must obtain the required visas through the appropriate representations of the Islamic Republic of Iran in India.
  4. Air border entry: The visa exemption specified in this announcement is specifically applicable to Indian nationals entering the country via the air border.
