In the wake of the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha Elections, a video of Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge is doing rounds on social media where he can be heard saying that Congress only divides the country.

We ran a search and found the original video on the YouTube channel of the Indian National Congress dated February 15, 2024. The title of the video read, “Bihar में Mallikarjun Kharge ने PM Modi और Nitish Kumar सहित BJP को जमकर लताड़ा, सुनिए भाषण LIVE”
In the video, Mallikarjun while talking about the caste census, says, “Brothers, Rahul Gandhi has a demand, our party have the same demand. The demand is caste census. And we will do it if our party comes to power. This census will tell us where people from different castes and communities are, where they are staying, and their conditions after independence. To get an idea about all this the census is necessary. How many graduates came from backward communities, scheduled castes, scheduled tribes, minorities and from below poverty line groups? How many upper caste people progressed in life etc. To know all this we have demanded a caste census. What is wrong with this? And Modi always says that Congress divides the country. Divides in the name of castes. When have we done this? We want to give justice to people.”
Thus, from the above fact check, it is clear that a line from the speech has been taken out and is being shared with a misleading context.
