Fact Check: Video Of UP Police Lathi-charging Crowd At Akshay Kumar, Tiger Shroff Event Viral With False Claim

The Uttar Pradesh government recently cancelled the police constable recruitment examination following a paper leak, and announced that the re-examination will be conducted within six months. Over 48 lakh government job aspirants appeared for the UP Police Constable exam held on February 17 and 18. Against the background, a video of police lathi-charging a huge crowd is being circulated on social media, claiming that cops are beating the youth for seeking jobs in UP.

The post reads: कावड़ लाओगे तो, फूल बरसाएंगे। नॉकरी मांगोगे तो, लठ बरसायेंगे। आइये, रामराज्य UP में आपका स्वागत है। #RO_ARO_RE_EXAM (English translation: If you bring Kavad, they will shower flowers. If you ask for a job, they will beat you. Come, welcome to Ramrajya UP. #RO_ARO_RE_EXAM)

We found similar videos in multiple media reports. A report by Zee News, dated February 27, informs that a brawl erupted between fans and cops at a promotional event of Akshay, Tiger-starrer Bade Miyan Chote Miya.

Similar videos were also published by The Free Press Journal and The Tribune.

According to a report by Hindustan Times, the police had to resort to lathi-charge to control thousands of people gathered at Hussainabad to watch Akshay Kumar and Tiger Shroff performing live stunts. When the Bollywood duo was throwing merchandise from the film into the crowd, the stampede broke out as the fans clamoured to get closer to their idols.

As per a representative of the PR company which organised the event, the fans made a scramble to catch the items that were thrown towards them, which broke the barricades leading to chaos.

Thus, from the above fact check, it is clear that the video is being shared with a false claim.
