Michelle Obama Emerges As Leading Candidate To Succeed Joe Biden In US Presidential Race

Date:

In a recent survey conducted by Rasmussen Reports, the former First Lady of the United States Michelle Obama, has emerged as a leading contender to potentially succeed President Joe Biden as the Democratic Party’s nominee for the upcoming presidential elections. The poll, carried out between February 18 and 2024, indicated that approximately half of likely U.S. voters believe there’s a possibility that Democrats may replace Biden with another candidate before the November elections.

Rasmussen Reports, an independent media company specializing in public opinion data since 2003, conducted a national telephone and online survey of 960 likely US voters between February 18 and 2024. The survey revealed that 47% of Likely U.S. Voters consider it likely that Democrats will substitute another candidate for Biden as their presidential nominee before the November election. Conversely, 45% of respondents do not believe such a scenario is likely.

Among Democrats surveyed, 33% expressed the belief that it is “somewhat” to “very likely” for Biden to be replaced by his party. Michelle Obama emerged as a top choice among alternative candidates, receiving 15% of the votes from all likely voters and 20% of the votes from Democrats. Other potential contenders included Vice President Kamala Harris, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, California Governor Gavin Newsom, and Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer, who garnered 10%, 9%, 8%, and 7% of the votes from all likely voters, respectively.

Speculation has surrounded Michelle Obama’s potential entry into the 2024 Presidential Election arena, with media reports suggesting she could face off against former US President Donald Trump. In a podcast interview in January, Michelle Obama expressed concerns about the upcoming election, stating that she was “terrified” of the potential outcome and emphasizing the importance of leadership in shaping the country’s future.

The speculation about Biden’s future within the Democratic Party intensified following a critical report by special counsel Robert Hur, which portrayed the president as “a sympathetic, well-meaning elderly man with a poor memory.” The White House strongly criticized the report, dismissing allegations of memory lapses in President Biden as “clearly politically motivated.”

Meanwhile, Donald Trump has reiterated his intention to run for office, despite facing potential criminal conviction before the election, which could theoretically result in decades of imprisonment. The political landscape remains dynamic as the US prepares for the upcoming presidential elections.
