NewsMobile fact-checked the above claim, and found it to be FALSE.

Performing a Google keyword search, the NM team could not find any credible media report corroborating the viral claim.

We also found another image uploaded on an Instagram page “@ai_art_production”. London’s iconic Big Ben, which was present in the original picture, has been deliberately excluded in the viral post. As per the account bio, “Creating innovative images and art made with AI tools” and also features many similar automobile AI creations.

Clarifying the situation, a Glasgow City Council representative informed Reuters via email that they are not responsible for launching such a double-decker electric bus. Their statement emphasises: “As the council doesn’t manage public buses, introducing a vehicle of this nature wouldn’t fall under our purview.”

On Putting the image through Hive Moderation — a tool that detects AI-generated content, we found that the picture in question is 100% AI-generated.

Thus, it is evident from the above information that an AI-generated image is shared as Glasgow City Council has launched their first electric double-decker. Therefore, the viral claim is false.
