Fact Check: Man Brandishing Knife In A Public Place Is NOT From UP, But Karnataka

Date:

A video showing a man misbehaving on the road is widely shared on social media, claiming that the man named ‘Abdul’ in Uttar Pradesh was threatening the public, but was thrashed by the police.

The video is shared on Facebook with a caption: “यह सहारनपुर, उत्तर प्रदेश का गुंडा अब्दुल मसूद है। बीते रविवार को मार्केट में दोनों हाथों में 🔪 लहराता हुआ दुकानदारों व पब्लिक के बीच खुलेआम दादागिरी कर रहा था, और फ़िर योगी जी की पुलिस आ गई। फिर जो हुआ, उसका नजारा आपके सामने है! ये है सही जगह व राष्ट्रवादी पार्टी को दिये हुए आपके एक एक वोट की ताकत।”

(English translation: This is gunda Abdul Masood of Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh. Last Sunday, he was openly bullying shopkeepers and the public while waving knives in both hands in the market, and then Yogi ji’s police arrived. What happened next is in front of you! This is the right place and the power of each vote given by you to the nationalist party.)

According to another report by India Today, dated February 6, 2023, a person — Fazal Bhagwan — was threatening the public with a knife in a market in Kalburgi. On getting the information, the police reached the market and tried to stop the person. The man also attempted to attack the police. In self-defence, the police shot and injured the person. Later the accused was sent to hospital.

The same information had also been published in the Telangana Today. As per The Times of India report,  the mental condition of the person was not right and he was undergoing treatment in the hospital. The person came to the market after running away from the hospital.

Thus, it is evident from the above information that a video from Karnataka is falsely shared as a man threatening people on the road in Uttar Pradesh.
