Fact Check: Does This Viral Image Show Former Haryana CM Khattar With His Belongings? Here’s the Truth

One day after stepping down as the chief minister of Haryana, Manohar Lal Khattar also resigned as MLA from the Karnal assembly constituency on March 13. He had represented Karnal since 2014. Following his resignation, an image has gone viral on social media showing ML Khattar carrying bags over his shoulders and hands. Many users claim that after resigning, he vacated his official residence, picked up his bags and baggage, and moved out.

FACT CHECK

NewsMobile fact-checked the above picture, and found it to be fake.

Running a Google reverse image search, the NM team found a Facebook post, dated October 24, 2019. The Facebook page carries an identical with a caption in Hindi: “We are poor people. Let’s take the bag and go.”

Furthermore, we could not find any news report claiming that ML Khattar left his official residence after resigning from the CM post with his minimal luggage.

Also, comparing the viral image with some known photos of Khattar, it raises doubts about the individual’s identity in the viral image being Khattar. We couldn’t independently confirm the person’s identity in the viral image or its context.

Hence, we can conclusively say that the 2019 image has been shared with false narratives.
