Mumbai: In a significant development in Maharashtra’s political landscape, veteran Bollywood actor Govinda officially joined the Shiv Sena on Thursday in the presence of Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde in Mumbai. The Bollywood star returned to politics after 14 years.
Govinda, renowned for his string of superhit films over the decades, made a blockbuster entry in electoral politics in 2004 on a Congress ticket. He secured victory in the Mumbai North Lok Sabha seat, defeating BJP heavyweight Ram Naik. However, he later resigned from the Congress party.
Govinda made his debut in 1986 has acted in over 120 film.
Earlier today, the Shiv Sena (UBT) released its first list of candidates in Maharashtra for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, naming senior leader Anil Desai from the Mumbai South Central parliamentary constituency. Sitting MP Arvind Sawant has been fielded from the South Mumbai seat, with Amol Kirtikar being fielded from the Mumbai North West constituency.
