A video of a man cutting off a finger is being shared on social media claiming that a man cut his finger in remorse after voting for PM Modi in the elections.

The post read, “*மோடிக்கு ஓட்டுப் போட்ட இந்த விரல் இனி இருக்கக் கூடாது என்று கூறிக்கொண்டு ஓட்டு போட்ட அந்த விரலை வெட்டி எடுக்கும் மானஸ்த்தன் வடக்கன்.*”

(English Translation:Manasthan Vadakan cuts off the finger that voted for Modi saying that this finger should not exist anymore.)

NewsMobile fact-checked the post and found the claim to be misleading.

We ran a keyword search and found some information related to the viral video in an article published on August 19, 2023, on Aaj Tak‘s website. 

According to the article, the incident in the viral video is from Maharashtra and the name of the person seen in the viral video is Dhananjay Nanavare, who is a resident of Ulhas Nagar, Maharashtra. The article mentioned that Dhananjay cut his finger in front of the camera on August 17, accusing the police of not taking action against the culprits who forced his brother and sister-in-law to commit suicide.

According to the article, he said that he voted for PM Modi with this finger and now he is giving it as a gift to Devendra Fadnavis. This person’s brother and sister-in-law had committed suicide. When no action was taken, the brother of the deceased took this step. A couple from Ulhasnagar had allegedly committed suicide on August 1 after being harassed by bullies. A day before this, he had made a video and made it viral.

Thus, from the above fact check, it is clear that the video is being shared with a false claim.
