Oklahoma: Oklahoma State Patrol on Saturday said that it closed a highway South of Sallisaw after a barge struck a bridge over the Arkansas River. As per a statement from the state Patrol spokesperson Sarah Stewart Troopers closed south US Highway 59 at about 1:25 PM after receiving word of the incident and diverted traffic from the area.
The Robert S. Kerr Reservoir, which is accessible via the bridge over the Arkansas River, will be closed until an inspection can be conducted. Neither on the barge nor on the highway were any injuries reported. The reason behind the barge’s collision with the bridge was not immediately understood. The revelation was announced on Saturday when experts were working to rescue a chunk of twisted steel from the Maryland-based Francis Scott Key Bridge, which collapsed after a huge cargo ship struck one of its main supports and the bridge fell into the Patapsco River.
