New Delhi: The Congress party released its manifesto for the upcoming 2024 Lok Sabha elections on Friday, with a focus on key areas such as conducting a national caste census, job creation, infrastructure development, and women empowerment. The manifesto was unveiled at the All India Congress Committee (AICC) headquarters in Delhi.
Congress Manifesto: Foreign Policy
- In its manifesto the Congress party outlined its vision for India’s foreign relations, the party has promised to fix its relations with the Maldives and will work to restore the status quo ante on our borders with China and to ensure that areas, where both armies patrolled in the past, are again accessible to the country’s soldiers. “We will take the necessary steps to adjust our policy towards China until this is achieved,” it added.
- The party vows to strengthen India’s role in multilateral institutions, advocate for the interests of the Global South, and push for reforms to address transnational challenges. Emphasizing the importance of foreign trade, Congress aims to conclude pending negotiations to benefit Indian producers and consumers.
- Taking a strong stance against terrorism, Congress commits to working with other nations to eradicate terrorist groups and acts, including cross-border terrorism.
- Looking towards India’s immediate neighbors, Congress manifesto prioritises strengthening relationships with Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, the Maldives, and Myanmar.
- Moreover, Congress plans to expand the Indian Foreign Service, open more diplomatic missions abroad, and leverage economic strengths for mutual benefit.
- Additionally, the party intends to reintroduce the position of a Minister of State for overseas Indians within the External Affairs Ministry, providing a dedicated channel for addressing their concerns.
