FACT CHECK
NewsMobile fact-checked the above claim, and found it to be AI-generated.
Upon conducting a Reverse Image Search, it was discovered that the photograph was initially uploaded by the user Tayrontoo on April 1. The accompanying caption explicitly states that it was intended as an April Fool’s Day prank.
Respondents to Holm’s photograph following the eclipse also noted that the image appeared implausible, considering that Toronto experienced overcast weather on April 8, the day of the eclipse.
Taylor Holm, the creator behind the account, confirmed to the NewsMobile via e-mail that the image was not a photo of the eclipse on April 8. “As for the photo itself, it clearly says on my Instagram that it’s April’s fool photoshopped image, which I made well over a week before the actual solar eclipse.”
As per reports from local media, the most recent total solar eclipse visible over Toronto dates back to 1925. However, in 2021, an annular solar eclipse traversed Canada, and images from news coverage of the event captured the Moon partially obscuring the Sun behind the CN Tower.
Hence, with the above findings, it can be concluded that the picture in question is AI-generated.
