Mumbai: The Board of Control for Cricket in India ( BCCI) on Tuesday, announced the 15-man squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024, with Rohit Sharma at the helm as the captain and Hardik Pandya assuming the role of vice-captain.
The squad boasts a strong lineup, with the likes of Sanju Samson and Rishabh Pant selected as the two wicket-keepers. KL Rahul who was part of the 2022 T20 World Cup has not been included in the squad.
Pant is set to make a comeback to team India, around 16 months after meeting with a car crash on the Delhi-Dehradun highway in Uttarakhand in 2022.
Notable inclusions feature the all-round capabilities of Shivam Dube, the spin prowess of Axar Patel, Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal. Importantly, Virat Kohli’s presence marks his sixth appearance in a T20 World Cup, adding experience and skill to the team’s arsenal.

Indian skipper Rohit Sharma, and Chairman of Selection Committee, Ajit Agarkar will address a press conference on May 2nd at BCCI HQ in Mumbai.
India are placed in Group A of the tournament alongside arch-rivals Pakistan, Ireland, Canada and co-hosts USA. India will begin their World Cup campaign against Ireland on June 05, 2024 at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium, New York, followed by the marquee clash against Pakistan on June 09, 2024 at the same venue. India will then play USA and Canada on June 12 and 15 respectively.
