Rekha Patra, Sandeshkhali Survivor And Bjp’s Candidate From Basirhat Gets X-Security Cover

Date:

New Delhi: Rekha Patra, who is a BJP Lok Sabha candidate from Basirhat and a Sandeshkhali survivor, led the protests against suspended Trinamool Congress leader Sheikh Shahjahan in West Bengal’s, Sandeshkhali gets X category security. Voting in Basirhat will take place on June 1 which will be the last phase of the ongoing Lok Sabha polls.

Patra will run against Haji Nurul Islam of the Trinamool Congress, who was chosen to replace current MP and Bengali star Nusrat Jahan. Rekha will be protected by commandos from the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF). The Security Protection for the ‘X-category’ was decided upon by the Ministry in response to an Intelligence Bureau (IB) report indicating danger.

Besides Patra, five other BJP candidates were also given security cover by the Ministry Of Home Affairs (MHA). The party’s Jhargram candidate, Pranat Tudu, together with Nirmal Saha from Bahrampur, Ashok Kandari from Jaynagar, and Ashok Purkait from Mathurapur, were all given X-category security cover. Karthik Paul, the BJP candidate for Raiganj, was granted ‘Y-category’ security protection in the meantime.

For about twenty-two BJP leaders in West Bengal, the MHA has offered security since the declaration of Lok Sabha elections earlier this month. The Central government currently provides security protection for around 100 BJP politicians. These leaders are guarded by CISF commandos.
