Over 80 Delhi-NCR Schools Receive Bomb Threats, Home Ministry Calls It Hoax

Date:

New Delhi: The security situation in the Delhi National Capital Region (NCR) escalated dramatically as officials confirmed that approximately 80 schools in the region received bomb threats via email on Wednesday. Students were promptly evacuated from these educational institutions.

The investigation agencies suspect that the email originated from a server located in Russia a single IP address was used to send the email to all schools, as per an ANI report.

The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has issued a statement, asserting that there is no need for panic. According to the MHA, the threats appear to be hoax calls.

Delhi Police PRO Suman Nalwa confirmed that nothing suspicious was found at any of the schools during investigation. “Several schools have approached us that they have received an email regarding a bomb in their campus. Delhi Police has conducted search operations but nothing untoward has been found so far…It seems someone has done this to create panic…I just want to request the parents to not get panicked. We are conducting an investigation regarding the same,” the Delhi Police PRO said.

DCP New Delhi, Devesh Kumar Mahla speaking to reporters said, “As a precautionary measure and based on the information, we have checked all the schools and nothing has been found. We appeal to everyone that there is no need to panic.”

Delhi LG VK Saxena who is inspecting one of the schools that received the threat said that he had sought a detailed probe from the Delhi Police Commissioner.

“Spoke to the Police Commissioner and sought a detailed report into the bomb threats at schools in Delhi-NCR. Directed Delhi Police to carry out a thorough search in school premises, identify the culprits & ensure there are no lapses. I request the parents not to panic and co-operate with the administration in ensuring safety of schools and the children. The miscreants & culprits will not be spared.” LG VK Saxena wrote on X.

All schools in Delhi-NCR to which threat emails have been sent have been closed as a precaution and the children have been sent back and Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) is being followed, authorities said. Bomb detection teams, bomb disposal squads and officials of Delhi Fire Service have been rushed to schools and search operations are underway, a police officer said.

On bomb threat to schools, Delhi Minister Atishi in a post on X (formerly Twitter) wrote “Some schools have received bomb threats today morning. Students have been evacuated and those premises are being searched by Delhi Police. So far nothing has been found in any of the schools. We are in constant touch with the Police and the schools. Would request parents and citizens not to panic. School authorities will be in touch with parents wherever needed.
