Fact Check: Does This Viral Video Show A Bomb Blast At Kalyan Jewellers Showroom In Karnataka? Here’s The Truth

A disturbing video is widely shared on social media, showing a bloodied man being dragged from a jewellery store and forced into a car. The video is being falsely attributed to a bomb blast at a Kalyan Jewellers showroom in Karnataka.

The video is shared on Facebook with a caption: “कल्याण ज्वैलर्स के शोरूम में ब्लास्ट। कर्नाटका के बेल्लारी में हुआ विस्फोट। कई ज़ख़्मी जाँच जारी। Kalyan jewellers blast कॉंग्रेस की सरकार आते ही बम धमाके हो रहे है कॉंग्रेस ममता बानो अखलेश खान चारा चोर ये सब इस्लामिक जिहादियों की पार्टी है इनको वोट मत देना” (English translation: Blast in Kalyan Jewellers showroom. Explosion in Bellary, Karnataka. Several injured. Investigation is going on. Bomb blasts are taking place as soon as the Congress government comes. Congress Mamta Bano, Akhilesh Khan, fodder thieves. These are the party of Islamic Jihadis. Do not vote for them.)

NewsMobile fact-checked the above claim, and found it to be MISLEADING.

With a keyword search, the NM team found that parts of the viral video were actually featured in a news report by Hindustan Times Kannada on YouTube, titled ‘AC blast at Kalyan Jewellers, Bellary’. The report shows the aftermath of an air conditioner blast at the Kalyan Jewellers showroom in Bellary, with police, firefighters, and locals present outside the damaged building.

According to Asianet Newsable, the explosion at Kalyan Jewellers in Bellary occurred during gas refilling in the central air-conditioning system, injuring five individuals, with one in critical condition. The injured are receiving treatment at VIMS Hospital. The report clarifies that no conspiracy was found in the incident.

Additionally, the Karnataka police have issued a statement confirming the cause of the explosion as a gas-related incident in the air conditioner, as confirmed by the Bellary SP after visiting the site. The police urge the public not to spread or believe rumours and misinformation.

Thus, it is confirmed that the disturbing incident happened at Kalyan Jewellers was not caused by bomb blast, but due to AC gas explosion.
