Lok Sabha Polls: Phase 3 Records 63.47% Voter Turnout | TOP UPDATES

New Delhi: The third phase of the 18th Lok Sabha Elections 2024 concluded on Tuesday evening, with voters from 92 Lok Sabha constituencies across 12 states and Union Territories cast their votes.

  • The polling in the third phase of Lok Sabha elections on Tuesday across 93 constituencies, recorded an approximate voter turnout of 63.47 per cent, according to the latest data issued by the Election Commission of India.
  • As per ECI’s latest data, the highest voter turnout was recorded in Assam at 76.91 per cent and Uttar Pradesh recorded the lowest voter turnout, which was recorded at 57.34 per cent.
  • The voter turnout in other states that voted on Tuesday in the third phase is: Bihar -58.02 per cent, Chhattisgarh -69.17 per cent, Goa -74.59 per cent, Gujarat-57.48 per cent, Karnataka-69.54 per cent, Madhya Pradesh -66.05 per cent, Maharashtra – 61.05 per cent and West Bengal -73.96 per cent, as per latest ECI data.
  • 61.45% voter turnout was recorded on Tuesday till 8 pm in Phase three of the Lok Sabha Elections, as per the Election Commission of India.
  • A voter turnout of 60.97 percent was recorded till 5 pm across 93 constituencies in the third phase of the Lok Sabha elections, as per the latest data by ECI.
  • As per latest data are- Bihar –56.55 per cent, Chhattisgarh–66.94 per cent, Goa — 74.00 per cent, Gujarat–56.21 per cent, Karnataka–66.80 per cent, Madhya Pradesh–62.79 per cent, Uttar Pradesh–57.04 per cent and West Bengal–73.93 per cent.
  • The voter turnout was recorded at 50.71 percent till 3 pm, as per the Election Commission of India data.
  • West Bengal is still leading the voter turnout at 49.27% while Goa is inching closer to it at 49.04% voter turnout till 1 pm, as per the data provided by the Election Commission of India.
  • Chhattisgarh is also witnessing a high voter turnout of 46.14 per cent. Maharashtra has the lowest turnout till 1 pm at 31.55 per cent.
  • Voting percentages for other states participating in the third phase of the Lok Sabha polls as of 1 pm are– Assam—45.88%, Bihar—36.69%, Gujarat—37.83%, Karnataka—41.59%, Madhya Pradesh—44.67% and Uttar Pradesh—38.12%.
  • Union Territory Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu recorded 39.94% voter turnout till 1 pm.
  • Notably, the overall voter turnout in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections was over 67%.

States and Constituencies Going to Polls:

In this phase, Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Goa, Gujarat, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal, along with the union territories of Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu will be up for polls.

  • Assam: Dhubri, Kokrajhar, Barpeta, Gauhati
  • Bihar: Jhanjharpur, Supaul, Araria, Madhepura, Khagaria
  • Chhattisgarh: Sarguja, Raigarh, Janjgir-Champa, Korba, Bilaspur, Durg, Raipur
  • Goa: North Goa, South Goa
  • Gujarat: Kachchh, Banaskantha, Patan, Mahesana, Sabarkantha, Gandhinagar, Ahmedabad East, Ahmedabad West, Surendranagar, Rajkot, Porbandar, Jamnagar, Junagadh, Amreli, Bhavnagar, Anand, Kheda, Panchmahal, Dahod, Vadodara, Chhota Udaipur, Bharuch, Bardoli, Navsari, Valsad
  • Karnataka: Chikkodi, Belgaum, Bagalkot, Bijapur, Gulbarga, Raichur, Bidar, Koppal, Bellary, Haveri, Dharwad, Uttara Kannada, Davangere, Shimoga
  • Madhya Pradesh: Morena, Bhind, Gwalior, Guna, Sagar, Vidisha, Bhopal, Rajgarh, Betul
  • Maharashtra: Baramati, Raigad, Dharashiv, Latur (SC), Solapur (SC), Madha, Sangli, Ratnagiri-Sindhudurg, Kolhapur, Hatkanangle
  • Uttar Pradesh: Sambhal, Hathras, Agra (SC), Fatehpur Sikri, Firozabad, Mainpuri, Etah, Budaun, Aonla, Bareilly
  • West Bengal: Maldaha Uttar, Maldaha Dakshin, Jangipur, Murshidabad

The third phase has several high-profile candidates vying for seats. Among them are Hasmukhbhai Patel from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) contesting in Ahmedabad East, Jyotiraditya Scindia contesting from Guna in Madhya Pradesh, and Pallavi Dempo from the BJP contesting in South Goa. Other prominent figures include Pralhad Joshi from the BJP in Dharwad, Karnataka, Dimple Yadav from the Samajwadi Party (SP) in Mainpuri, Uttar Pradesh, and Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury from the Indian National Congress (INC) in Berhampore, West Bengal.

The electoral landscape in Phase 3 also features notable political figures like Badruddin Ajmal from the All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF) in Dhubri, Assam, Shivraj Singh Chouhan from the BJP in Vidisha, Madhya Pradesh, and Digvijaya Singh from the INC in Rajgarh, Madhya Pradesh. Additionally, Supriya Sule from the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) will contest from Baramati, Maharashtra, and Alok Sharma from the BJP will vie for the seat in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh.

The recently concluded Phase 1 and Phase 2 of the Lok Sabha elections have seen a notable decrease in voter turnout compared to the 2019 polls, according to data released by the Election Commission. In Phase 1, which covered 102 seats on April 19th, the voter turnout stood at 66.14 percent, marking a decline from the 2019 turnout of 69.43 percent. Similarly, Phase 2, which covered 88 seats on April 26th, witnessed a turnout of 66.71 percent, down from 69.17 percent in 2019.

The remaining phases will take place on May 13th, May 20th, May 25th, and June 1st, with results set to be declared on June 4th.
