New Delhi: Danish Ambassador, Freddy Svane, is a good friend of India and has been working hard to promote bilateral partnership between India and Denmark but after raising the trash dumping issue with civic authorities he is frustrated at the inaction.
Denmark’s diplomat to India, catalyzed swift action from New Delhi’s civic body after sharing a video on social media highlighting the presence of a garbage dump outside the Danish embassy building. Hours after Svane’s appeal for action, the city’s municipal committee dispatched officials to clean up the area.
In the video shared on X, Svane stood on a road adjacent to the Denmark embassy, with the embassy wall visible to his right. Pointing to the pile of trash lining the road, Svane remarked, “Welcome to great, green, and trashy New Delhi.” He lamented the state of the service lane, emphasizing that it was overrun with garbage, despite housing diplomatic premises.

Expressing his hope for swift action, Svane urged authorities to address the issue promptly. “No more nice words, just action,” he asserted, concluding his video with a 360-degree shot of the garbage dumped near the embassy building.
Accompanying the video was a caption expressing Svane’s disappointment with the situation: “Lovely and green New Delhi. Many words but no action. Saddened by this.” Svane tagged the official X accounts of the Royal Danish Embassy in India, the Delhi Chief Minister’s Office, and the Delhi Lieutenant Governor in his post, calling attention to the pressing issue.
Responding promptly to Svane’s appeal, the New Delhi Municipal Committee (NDMC) dispatched officials to the site to initiate cleanup efforts. Visuals from the scene depicted Svane alongside NDMC officials, underscoring the collaborative effort to address the problem.

Svane’s proactive approach in highlighting the issue of waste management near diplomatic premises garnered attention and appreciation from social media users. Many commended his efforts to draw attention to the issue and applauded the swift response from municipal authorities.
The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of maintaining cleanliness and sanitation in urban areas, especially in proximity to diplomatic establishments. Svane’s advocacy for action underscores the need for continued vigilance and cooperation to ensure the upkeep of public spaces in the national capital.
