Gurgaon: In a bid to enhance voter participation in the ongoing parliamentary elections, the Gurgaon district administration has initiated a unique collaboration with multiple multiplex chains.
On May 25, voters in the Gurgaon parliamentary constituency who show their inked finger after casting their ballots will be eligible for a range of incentives at participating multiplexes, including free or discounted offline movie tickets, as well as complimentary food and beverages.
As per the District Election Officer and Gurgaon Deputy Commissioner, Nishant Kumar Yadav, A total of 90 theatre screens will offer different discounts to people on polling day. The incentives vary across venues, with some multiplexes offering complimentary movie tickets, while others provide free refreshments or discounts on tickets and snacks. The primary objective of this initiative is to stimulate greater engagement in the electoral process.
Gaurav Singh, Additional CEO of Haryana State CSR Trust, lauded the initiative, highlighting its role in promoting voter awareness. The trust, a government body dedicated to facilitating Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives in Haryana, believes that such collaborative efforts can significantly impact voter turnout.
In addition to the multiplex partnership, the district administration has undertaken various initiatives to raise voter awareness. These include setting up a ‘Wall of Democracy’ and organising demonstrations of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) at the mini-secretariat. During the inauguration ceremony, DC Nishant Yadav honored first-time voters who will cast their ballots on May 25.
The ‘Wall of Democracy’ serves as a symbolic representation of citizens’ commitment to democracy, with participants signing their names to pledge their support for the electoral process.
Gurgaon has historically grappled with low voter turnout, trailing behind both state and national averages. The administration aims to surpass the national average through collaborative efforts and innovative initiatives.
