FACT CHECK

When NewsMobile fact-checked the above picture, we found it to be FAKE.

On putting the picture through Reverse Image Search, we came across similar pictures being used in several news articles. According to those reports, the picture was from 2016 during the launch of digital payments app BHIM.

On digging through the official website of Press Information Bureau, we found the original picture in which PM Modi was holding no such placard.

The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi awards the District Collectors who transformed the most backward districts to adopt digital payments, at the DigiDhan Mela, in New Delhi on December 30, 2016.
The Union Minister for Electronics & Information Technology and Law & Justice, Shri Ravi Shankar Prasad and the Minister of State for Electronics & Information Technology and Law & Justice, Shri P.P. Chaudhary are also seen.

He is actually holding a scroll while he was awarding the District Collectors from different parts of the country who transformed the most backward districts to adopt digital payments.

In the above FAKE vs REAL collage, it is clear the text on the scroll was changed using photo editing software.
