Two more weeks of lockdown; govt likely to notify soon

The Centre is mulling extending the nationwide lockdown by two more weeks. A notification to this effect is expected shortly.

This follows a virtual meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and all the Chief Ministers in which the matter was discussed threadbare.

The overall sentiment in the meeting was in favour of extending the 21-day lockdown that ends on April 14.

While State governments of Odisha, Punjab and Maharashtra have already announced an extension of the lockdown till April 30, many other states are in favour of the move so as to not fritter away the gains made so far in containing the transmission of COVID-19.
